Frequently
Asked
Questions

What is therapy and who is it for?

Therapy is an individual support provided by a mental health specialist that is focused on decreasing symptoms that are making life harder and increasing what is currently working well. In my case, I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#141825) with over 8 years of therapy experience.

Therapy can be for most people who are ready to make a change, learn more about themselves, and work towards their goals. Speaking to a therapist is one of the easiest ways to see if therapy is the support you need.

How do I know it's working?

It's important to have ongoing conversations with your therapist to understand if the sessions are helping. In the beginning, things might first become harder before they are better. This is because in therapy, we might uncover challenging things about your past or talk about uncomfortable topics.

For the first several sessions, I check in multiple times to see how you are feeling and experiencing the therapeutic session. This helps me fine tune my support to your needs. I also have consistent conversations in the sessions to check on your goals and your progress.

How can I tell if you're the right therapist for me?

Finding the right therapist for you is an important part of the therapeutic process. Our discovery call should feel comfortable to you. The first few sessions are focused on building a strong relationship.

Do you take insurance?

At this time I am not on any insurance panels. My current fee is $185 per individual 45-50 minute session, with an honor system sliding scale with lower rates per session. I also offer monthly superbills that you can send to your insurance to potentially receive reimbursement for services. This link is a good superbill primer for folks that are interested in using them.

How does therapy work for children?

Just as for adults, therapy can be very helpful for children of any age. I work with children ages 9 and up. Therapy should be enjoyable for children and I use games, play therapy interventions, and art interventions to work on goals.

Parents are a crucial part in the success of therapy, and I involve parents every step of the way.

Prior to the first session with the child, I have a parent intake session to learn the history of the current situation and to work with the parents to come up with goals for the child.

Parent update sessions are scheduled at regular intervals to continue the parent - therapist partnership. During parent update sessions, I share how therapy is progressing, and hear from parents about the progress and struggles they are seeing at home.
